The transportation industry is a leading source of CO2 emissions in the United States. In fact, 28% of all energy used in the United States is used to move goods and people from point A to B. Improving sustainability standards within the transportation industry involves significant adjustments in how products and goods are shipped and how future transportation routes are designed. The solution to a more sustainable transportation industry is not necessarily less movement or limits on growth. Instead, the sector should focus on increasing efficiency from daily commuters to the shipment of manufactured goods.

Transportation and packaging are a significant cost component of every organization’s supply chain. All organizations are addressing the environmental impact of transportation in their supply chains and are starting to provide the sustainability reporting that is now being required. The transportation will play a significant role in advancing sustainable strategies and impacting emissions reductions in the United States.
