Paul has spoken for the following organizations; National Facility Management & Technology Conference (NFM & T), the US Green Building Council (USGBC), CoreNet, American Society of School Business Officials (ASBO), American Society for Healthcare Engineering (ASHE), Greening the Heartland (WGBA), World Environment Center (WEC), International Facility Management Association (IFMA), Building Owners and Managers Association (BOMA), Today’s Facility Manager’s Conference (TFM), Engineering Green Buildings Conference (EGB), American Society of Heating, Refrigerating & Air Conditioning (ASHRAE), Environmental Health & Safety Management Organization (NAEM), and NACUBO, to name a few. He has taught lighting courses, given numerous seminars, and has also spoken on energy efficiency, high performance green buildings, performance contracting and sustainability at numerous colleges and universities.
Paul is one of the original members and served on the board of the U.S. Green Building Council for ten years, having served as Treasurer and co-chair of the LEED® Steering Committee. He was the chairman of the LEED for Existing Buildings Committee as well as the Finance and Marketing Committees. Paul was honored with the USGBC’s Leadership Award in 2005 for his work on LEED development.
Paul was one of the founders of the Alliance for Sustainable Built Environments, a coalition of suppliers of sustainable products and services. As a member of the Executive Council of the Energy Efficiency Forum, co-sponsored by Johnson Controls and the U.S. Energy Association, Paul helped bring together business and government leaders to discuss the implications of energy policy.
Through his efforts, Paul assisted Johnson Controls in twice earning the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency’s ENERGY STAR® award for the company’s involvement and promotional efforts. Johnson Controls has helped its thousands of customers – including K-12 schools, universities, commercial and industrial buildings, retail stores, and local and federal government buildings –save billions of dollars in energy costs.
In his 25+ years with Johnson Controls, Paul has served as the director of lighting services and performance contracting along with his managing of the high-performance green building business within the company. He was honored in 2008 with the company’s BELL (Building Efficiency Lifetime Leadership) award for his tenure and demonstrated leadership.
Before joining Johnson Controls, Paul held the positions of vice president of SPI Lighting; director of national accounts for McGraw Edison Company; and president of his own consulting firm, Productive Environments.
